The BBTF team, together with key players in the tour and travel industry, is committed to revolutionizing Bali’s tourism business by prioritizing quality and sustainability. By promoting these values, we can have a significant impact on global economic recovery. I Putu Winastra, the Head Committee of BBTF 2023 and Chairman of ASITA Bali Chapter, emphasizes the importance of consistency and strong resolutions in achieving this goal. Together, we can bounce back and create a more sustainable future.
International tourism is already showing promising signs of recovery, with arrivals reaching 57% of pre-pandemic levels in the first seven months of 2022. According to the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, international tourist arrivals nearly tripled from January to July 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, reflecting a strong pent-up demand for travel and the lifting of travel restrictions. This recovery provides a dynamic context for Indonesian stakeholders to embrace the 12 aims of sustainability in tourism defined by the UNWTO.
These aims include economic viability, local prosperity, employment quality, social equity, and visitor fulfillment. By focusing on these aspects, we can ensure that tourism benefits both the local communities and the environment. To support these efforts, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has established guidelines for sustainable tourism destinations. These guidelines cover sustainable management, socio-economic sustainability, cultural sustainability, and environmental sustainability.
By adhering to these guidelines, sustainable tourism becomes more than just a general concept. It can be measured through specific actions and implemented in a structured manner. BBTF 2023, taking place from June 14 to 17 at BICC Bali, aims to connect quality and sustainable tourism. This event will encourage industry stakeholders to adopt a community-based approach that creates long-term value and benefits for local people and environments.
Now is the perfect time to travel and experience local culture and nature mindfully. Join BBTF 2023 and be a part of the sustainable travel revolution. Together, we can create a future where tourism supports the well-being of communities and the preservation of natural resources.
